Funeral services were held Thursday at a Glenwood funeral home by Rev. Fritz Mellberg for William Charles Bowley, 86, who died Oct. 7, at a Red Oak hospital.

Bill, as he was known to all, was born in South Omaha, Nebraska, the son of Fred and Katherine Bowley. As a youngster, he attended a rural school near LaPlatte, Nebraska.

On March 20, 1918 he married Hulda Marie Wortman at Glenwood, Iowa. The following September he was inducted into the Army where he served as a cook during World War I. He was discharged in January of 1919.

Following his return to Mills County, where he has lived most of his life, he farmed around Glenwood and moved to Tabor in 1948, returning to Glenwood in 1949. He worked for the Schroeder Packing Plant for a time and later was employed at the Glenwood State Hospital-School, until his retirement.

Bill was preceded in death by his wife on March 13, 1976. He leaves as his survivors three sons, Delbert (Bud) Bowley of Glenwood; Odell Bowley of Malvern and Gene Bowley of Chula Vista, California; thirteen grandchildren; eleven great grandchildren and one step grandchild.
