Former Mills County Resident to be Buried in Plumer Cemetery.
C. H. W. Busse, 83, former resident of Mills county, died of pneumonia Tuesday at his home in Decatur, Neb. He had suffered a stroke two years ago.
Funeral services will be held in the German Lutheran church at the Plumer settlement in Mills county at 2:30 p.m. Thursday. Burial will be in the Plumer cemetery.
Born in Germany July 2, 1849, he came to the United States in 1854 with his parents and settled in Indiana. In 1865 he moved to a farm fifteen miles southwest of Council Bluffs just over the line in Mills county.
In 1893 Mr. Busse moved to Decatur. He served several terms in the Nebraska legislature as representative of Burt county. He was vice president and a director of the First National bank of Decatur and a director of the Burt county drainage district.
He is survived by his widow, Annie; five sons, Edward of Colorado Springs, Col., Gustave, Elmer, John and Ted, all of Decatur; three daughters, Mrs. D. B. Watson, Mrs. Leslie Warren and Kathryn Busse, all of Decatur; a brother, Louis Busse, living on his father's farm in Mills county; two sisters, Mrs. Henry Enselman, living in Pottawattamie county near the Mills county line, and Julia Miller, living with her brother, Louis; and fourteen grandchildren.

Charles Henry William Busse was born July 10, 1849 and died at his home south of Decatur, NE, Aug 16, 1932, aged 83 yrs, 1 mo and 6 days. He was the eldest son of Carl Heinrich and Angeline Busse. They came to America in 1853 when he was four years old. It took them six weeks to make the voyage across the ocean in a sailing vessel. They landed at New Orleans, LA, and continued their journey by boat up the Mississippi River as far as St. Louis, MO. They settled in the neighborhood of Vincennes, IN, where until 1858 they made their home. At that time they came farther west to Council Bluffs, IA, where he grew to manhood. Early in life he joined the Lutheran church of which he was a member until the time of his death.
He was united in marriage to Louisa Miller, Mar 1, 1876. To them were born four children: Gustave H., Edward H., Meta and Augusta. Death on March 27, 1891 dissolved this marriage tie.
January 24, 1893 he was united in marriage to Anna Margaret Bichel. To them four children were born: Kathryn, Elmer, John and Theodore. They came to the farm south of Decatur in 1894 which was his home for thirty-eight years Here he exhibited the characteristics by which he was best known to his countless friends, those peculiar to the pioneer type: integrity, industry, perseverance, and courage. He was always ready to help when help was needed and unselfishly devoted to his family. His passing marks the loss of a character that cannot be replaced because, wherever he served he served well.
It was largely due to his foresight that the Burt-Washington Drainage District was organized. He was a member of its Board of Directors until April, 1932. He was the first president of Decatur State Bank from 1904-1908. When the bank was reorganized, becoming the First National Bank, he served as vice-president until his resignation in January, 1926. During the years 1911-12 he served as a member of the Nebraska State Legislature.
He was stricken with paralysis in Sept, 1930 since which time his natural activities were lessened until the final call. Those surviving are his wife, Anna, a brother Louis Busse of Council Bluffs, IA, two sisters, Julia Busse and Mrs. Anna Enselman, both of Council Bluffs, Iowa, eight children and fourteen grandchildren. Funeral services were held at the home Thursday, Aug 18 at ten o'clock and at three o'clock at the Lutheran church at Plumer Cemetery, Council Bluffs, IA where interment was made.
