WOMAN NEAR COUNCIL BLUFFS COMMITS SUICIDE.

Mrs. Emma Griffith Uses a Shotgun and Tears a Great Hole in Her Side.

COUNCIL BLUFFS, Ia., July 25— Mrs. Emma K. Griffith killed herself with a shotgun at her home in Lewis township about seven miles south of Council Bluffs today. The deed is supposed to have been prompted by ill health from which Mrs. Griffith had been a sufferer for the past two years. The shooting was done in a bed room where Mrs. Griffith was alone. She had risen and had dressed and was sitting in a chair. A shotgun was used, the charge being fired through the woman's breast, tearing a gaping wound and causing instant death.

George, Mrs. Griffith's 9-year-old son, was going from the house to the barn to help his father when he heard the shot. He ran into the house and found his mother sitting in a chair apparently lifeless with a shotgun on the floor. Running to the barn where his father was at work he told him what had happened and together they returned to the house and found the wife and mother dead.
