Richard Henry “Dick” Heitman

Richard Henry “Dick” Heitman, age 81, passed away April 16, 2010, in Spokane, Wash.

He was born December 12, 1928, in Council Bluffs, to Henry Earnest and Olive Julia Henrietta (Spetman) Heitman. He married Carleta Meyer Oct. 23, 1949, in Council Bluffs. He was a farmer southeast of Council Bluffs before heading west with his family in 1953. He began his career as a Greyhound Bus driver in Phoenix, Ariz., in 1958, and completed his 28 year career in Fresno, Calif.

Dick enjoyed his retirement years first in Kimberling City, Mo., and then in Spokane, Wash. His hobbies were woodworking, gardening and reading books on US history. He was every ones “handyman”, always helping family, friends and neighbors.

He will be missed dearly by his loving wife of 60 years, Carleta and everyone who was blessed to know him. He was a lifelong member of the Lutheran Church, Missouri Synod.

He is survived by his wife; loving daughters, Susan (Frank) Kirk, of Clovis, Calif., Cynthia (Brian) Fiut, of Spokane, Barbara (Michael) Logelin, of Las Vegas, Nev., and Elizabeth (Moses) Martinez, of Clovi; siblings, Alice Brown, of Council Bluffs, Phyllis Higgins, of Earlham, Iowa, and Trudy Smith, of Brookfield, Mo.; 6 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren.

Visitation on Friday, 5 to 7 p.m. at the Cutler-O'Neill-Meyer-Woodring Funeral Home. Funeral Service 11 a.m., Saturday, April 24, 2010, also at the Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to Salem Lutheran Church.
