Albert Gustav Plumer, the second youngest of six children of Agusta (Turk) and Charles Christopher Plumer, was born on the Plumer homestead north of Glenwood, Iowa on March 21, 1918. Albert attended Oak Ridge No. 2 rural school (**see WebMaster note below) near his home. The family were members of St. John Lutheran Church at Mineola, Iowa where Albert was baptized and later confirmed. He graduated from Glenwood High School in 1935 and attended business college in Omaha for two years before he began his life-long farming career. Albert purchased the Plumer homestead from his parents in 1953. Albert and Carolyn Martha Behrens were married on September 26, 1959. Their marriage was blessed with two sons, Clay Jeffrey and Jon Albert. Albert continued his love for farming and stewardship of the land. He took pride in knowing his family was the third generation of Plumers to live on the family homestead broken from the fertile Iowa prairie by his grandfather in 1851. Here, Albert and Carolyn remained until 1983 when Albert retired and a new home was built just south but still on the original homestead land. Son Clay is now the fourth generation of Plumers to live in the original house. Albert continued his love of working the land as he helped his sons with the farming.

Failing health caused Albert to move to Bethany Lutheran Home in Council Bluffs, Iowa on May 2, 2002. Albert and Carolyn had been married for 43 years when Albert died at Jennie Edmundson Memorial Hospital in Council Bluffs on January 15, 2003. He had attained the age of 84 years, 9 months, and 24 days.

Albert was preceded in death by his parents; sisters Pauline Carter and Luella Nevin; brother Charles Plumer, Jr. and twin brother Alfred Plumer. In addition to his wife Carolyn, Albert is survived by his sons Clay Plumer and his fiancée Marla Sayers and Jon Plumer and his fiancée Julie Anderson all of rural Glenwood; grandson Cyle Plumer, a student at Iowa State University in Ames, IA and granddaughter Samantha a student at Glenwood Community High School; sister Marie Ewing and her husband David of Wayne, Nebraska; sister-in-law Edna Plumer of Council Bluffs; nieces and nephews; other relatives and friends.
