Peter F. Wortmann

Peter F. Wortmann, one of the prominent citizens and pioneers of St. Mary township, answered the call of the death angel on Sunday, January 13, while a patient at the Edmundson hospital in Council Bluffs. He had been a sufferer for some time from stomach trouble.

He was a loyal citizen of his adopted country and held in high esteem by his neighbors.

Peter F. Wortmann was born in Schleiswig, Germany, something over 63 years ago. He came with his parents to America in 1872. In the early eighties a farm was purchased in St. Mary and this has been his home for the past thirty-five years.

He is survived by five daughters and a son. His wife died about twelve years ago. A brother, John Wortmann, is a resident of Council Bluffs.

Funeral services were held on Wednesday, January 16, at the home, followed by additional services at the German Lutheran church in the Plumer settlement, conducted by Rev. H. E. Huff. The pallbearers were his neighbors, Henry Brandt, J. B. Brandt, Henry Enselman, Christian Enselman, E. G. Klindt, Wm. Scheidle
