Delbert Wyland Grosse, 82 of Council Bluffs, IA, passed away Sunday, December 8, 2024 at Nebraska Methodist Hospital in Omaha.
Delbert was born on January 2, 1942 in Council Bluffs, the oldest of four children of Delbert Earl and Helen June Louise (Strayer) Grosse. He held several jobs through the years; City of Council Bluffs/State of Iowa Maintenance Dept., 20 years for McCollister Oil, and was the owner and operator of Grosse Transfer (1982-2015) until retirement.
Delbert and Nancy Lee Cooper were united in marriage on May 8, 1962 at Our Savior Lutheran Church in Council Bluffs. Their marriage was blessed with four children, Kristine, Debra, Stephanie, and Alonzo.
Delbert enjoyed hunting deer and pheasants, taking family trips to Minnesota to stay in a cabin and fish. He raced stock cars when he was younger, and later helped his son Alonzo with his racing. Delbert belonged to a bowling league (his team included his wife and parents), and loved to go ballroom dancing at the 50's Dance Club. Delbert supported his children and grandchildren by attending all their activities in sports and school. He loved spending time with his family and enjoyed the companionship of his dogs, Diablo and Princeton.
Delbert was preceded in death by his parents; beloved wife Nancy in 2020; daughter Debra Petry; son-in-law Joe Hernandez; granddaughter Amanda Hernandez; and grandson Elijah Knoble.
Delbert is survived by his daughters, Kristine Hernandez, and Stephanie Knoble and husband Michael, all of Council Bluffs; son Alonzo Grosse and wife Erika of Council Bluffs; 13 grandchildren; 18 great grandchildren; brother Steve Grosse of Council Bluffs; twin sisters, Jackie Allen (Paul) and Gwen Kenyon, all of Council Bluffs; other relatives; and a host of special friends.
